A new 30t wheeled loader is Volvo Construction Equipments star for Bauma. The L220D is aimed primarily at the quarrying market for rock production and rehandling where it is intended to give high productivity, relatively low fuel consumption and meet high environmental standards for emissions and engine noise.

Power comes from a new Volvo 257kW engine which delivers 1,530Nm of torque at just 800rpm and 1,645Nm at 1,450rpm.

Also on show will be a new C model range of Volvos Euclid rigid haulers giant off-road tipper trucks. These are the R40, R60, R65 and R90 machines which are marginally heavier than their predecessors, weighing in at between a fraction under 70t, and 155t each. The R90s payload is now increased from 94.5t to 100t.

All the Euclid machines have the latest Allison transmissions with six forward speeds, electronic control and generally more robust drive trains to match the increased payload, says Volvo. Service monitoring by the Contronic computer can warn of specific malfunctions and indicate when servicing is needed as well as operating optional extras such as traction control to avoid wheelspin, and downhill speed control.
