Contractor VolkerStevin Marine has been awarded a £15M contract to protect the piers on Tay Road Bridge in Dundee, Scotland.
The project consists of pier protection works to ensure the bridge is not closed by serious shop impact at the navigation spans - it has been struck three times in its 45-year life span.
Consultant Jacobs has designed the project consisting of precast concrete shell units weighing between 250t and 300t being placed around the perimeter of the pier to protect it.
The works will begin this month and are expected to take 18 months to complete.
