Video | Natasha Kaplinsky interviews Naomi Climer

National newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky has interviewed Institution of Engineering and Technology president Naomi Climer for a magazine-style video to promote the industry.

Climer, who gave her president’s address this week, told the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant about the glamourous life engineering had given her.

“Engineering has been fantastic for me,” Climer said. “I’ve travelled all over the world, I’ve lived in California for years, I’ve been on red carpet premiers, I’ve met the pope.”

The programme also examines the need for universities and companies to work together to secure the next generation of engineers.

Natasha Kaplinsky interviews IET president Naomi Climer

A report published by the IET today found that engineering recruits did not meet the expectations of one in two employers.

Climer caused a fierce debate in the industry last month when she called for the government to get involved with the creation of quotas for women working in engineering.
