Video | Huge overhaul of Paradise Circus begins

A £500M transformation of a section of Birmingham city centre began this week.

The 7ha Paradise scheme will involve pedestrianising a section of Paradise Circus Queensway as well as other infrastructure changes.

It is being brought forward by Paradise Circus Ltd Partnership, a joint venture of Birmingham City Council and BT Pension Scheme. Hermes Real Estate is managing the project, with Argent as development manager and Peter Brett Associates providing design and advice.

Road layout has been redesigned with traffic levels in mind and to provide an improved gateway into the city for pedestrians and cyclists.

Peter Brett partner Michael Parkinson said: “This hugely important regeneration scheme is a very exciting project for us. We have been able to provide personal, trusted advice and apply ingenious solutions to get Paradise on to site.”

The first phase of the development will include major demolition, significant infrastructure changes and enhancements to the public realm.

Watch a video demonstration of how the scheme will unfold below.
