US Senate passes Obama's stimulus plan

The US Senate passed President Barack Obama’s $838bn (£578bn) Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan yesterday.

Work will now begin on reconciling it with a version of the economic stimulus bill passed by the House of Representatives late last month. The plan involves creating or saving up to 4M jobs – many in infrastructure – and doubling US production of alternative energy.
