US road user groups oppose privatisation


A coalition of powerful US road user groups has formed to oppose privatisation of American highways.

The Bush administration has encouraged states to explore the use of toll roads to combat congestion. But the Americans for a Strong National Highway Network coalition said: 'Companies investing in our roads want to induce congestion on the roads they profit from. Their prots are derived from high traffic volumes and high tolls.'
