Graduate profile - Boris Kolle

Boris, Graduate Structural Engineer, Glasgow. While researching for his PhD in civil engineering, Boris also spent some time carefully researching future employers, so that he was well informed about the kind of firms that he felt would give him the career opportunities he wanted. He would advise all graduates who are keen to get the best start to their professional career to do the same. He says: "I thought about what I could offer potential employers and what I wanted in a job. For example, I knew that my PhD had helped me develop my creativity, research and problem-solving skills, and that I wanted to put these skills to work on real projects which had visible results."

Since joining URS last year, Boris has been able to do just that and, as he hoped, is now putting the research he undertook for his PhD into practice. Boris is currently involved in designing and planning new schools, office buildings and also working on many other utilities projects.

"I'm learning so much in my role and enjoying the opportunities available at URS to work on an exciting range of projects," he says. "I'm using my skills and experience to provide real benefits to my clients."Graduate profile - Anna Lee

Anna, Graduate Civil Engineer, Southampton. Anna joined URS in 2005 as a civil engineer, after graduating with a BEng degree in civil engineering and an MSc in environmental engineering. Her work has taken her across the globe from Hong Kong to Guyana, and Mozambique to Bangladesh.

She is involved in complex and challenging civil and structural engineering projects, making a real impact on the built environment. Most recently, Anna has been concentrating on a major Ł80M defence project in the south of England, providing detailed design and build and project management services.

Anna is quite clear that joining URS was the right decision for her. "URS has provided a chance for to me to get involved at all levels on projects, and I've really broadened my experience since coming here as a result. I've been given a lot of responsibility, which is great. I have found that I thrive on exceeding the requirements, and expectations, of our clients."
