Teams from across the construction industry came together to complete a 16km trail run, 24km mountain bike and 2km canoe relay in Exmoor in early July raising more than £70,000 for charity Care International in the process.
Tim Doyle (pictured, right) and Matt Thomasson (left) from URS Transport beat the other 36 teams to take first place in a time of three hours 52 minutes.
Second place was claimed by a team of three from Bechtel, which completed the course in four hours 22 minutes, while in third place was Ramboll with the fastest four person team and a finishing time of four hours 24 minutes.
“The whole event was very challenging,” said Thomasson. “It was tricky switching from the mental and physical challenges, keeping the momentum of the race going, particularly stop/starting the legs without cramp setting in, but it was a good test. It felt amazing to win!”
The prize-giving event included presentations from Care International chief executive Geoffrey Dennis and members of the shelter team who showed how the funds raised would support some of the most important construction projects in the world, such as shelter to families made homeless by earthquakes like Haiti.
