Hydrogeology and groundwater quality Contaminated land and Groundwater

One year full-time or two years part-time modular course followed by an independent project linked with industry. Topics include groundwater hydraulics, aquifer testing, groundwater modelling, groundwater and surface water chemistry, meteorology, soil hydrology, microbiology, geophysics, aquifer pollution, protection and remediation, aquifer management and engineering and legal and environmental issues. Entry is normally an upper second class degree in earth or environmental sciences, civil engineering or similar. Recognised by NERC and receives advanced course studentships.A diploma consisting of only the taught part of the course is available.

One year full-time or two years part-time modular course followed by an independent project linked with industry. Topics include site investigation, risk assessment, remediation, sources and properties of contaminants, soil hydrology and solute leaching, surface chemistry of soils and made ground, groundwater hydraulics, groundwater flow modelling and contaminant transport, subsurface microbiology, exploration geophysics and regulatory framework. There is also a one week field class. Entry requirement is normally an upper second class degree in earth or environmental sciences, civil engineering or similar, with a good background in maths, physics and chemistry. A diploma consisting of only the taught part of the course is available.
