United Utilities Water has been fined £8.5 million for breaching trading arrangements with associate companies.
United Utilities Water has been fined £8.5 million for breaching trading arrangements with associate companies between October 2005 and March 2007. Water regulator Ofwat confirmed the fine after considering two responses to its consultation on the proposed penalty. The Board decided at its June meeting that the £8.5m penalty 'was fair and reasonable'. The penalty will be borne by United Utilities Water's shareholders and will be paid to the Government.is fine of £8.5 million sends a strong message to United Utilities Water and the rest of the water industry that they must comply with their licence conditions,' said Ofwat Chief Executive, Regina Finn.December 2006, United Utilities Water provided Ofwat with a legally binding undertaking to stop non-compliant trading arrangements with associate companies on or before 30 April 2007.
