United Arab Emirates scheme


Foundation work is underway in the United Arab Emirates for the forthcoming Central Market. It will see almost 1000 piles from 1.5m to 2.5m diameter and up to 55m long. The 5ha city centre scheme for Aldar Properties will include an 88 storey residential tower, a 58 storey office block, a 58 storey hotel and other hotel, retail and cinema buildings. As EF went to press there was already about 1Mt of concrete and 54,000t reinforcement on a 450m long and 120m wide site within a 20m deep anchored diaphragm wall.
