UK's top female engineers revealed

The UK’s top 50 female engineers have been revealed as part of the events to mark National Women in Engineering Day.

Across the UK companies are using the day to highlight the value of women in engineering. Twitter users under the hashtag #NWED2016 have this year focused on raising profiles of female engineers, also using the hashtag #RaisingProfiles. Companies such as Crossrail and Network Rail have released videos of women engineers explaining their role as well as using the forum to highlight the opportunities available. The day has been organised by the Women’s Engineering Society.

New Civil Engineer has two new interviews with female engineers from WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff on its site today, senior structural engineer Najwa Jawahar and development director Katherine Bright.

The full list of the top 50 women in engineering, selected by a panel of judges, includes names well-known in the civil engineering profession such as:

  • Scottish Water general manager Belinda Oldfield
  • Network Rail chief engineer Jane Simpson
  • Transport for London director of asset management Dana Skelley
  • WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff development director Rachel Skinner
  • Atkins group head of offshore wind Katherine Ward
