UK water and roads work drive Grontmij profits

Dutch consultant Grontmij today posted strong results for 2008, with its UK roads and water operations proving particlularly strong performers.

Across its European operations, the firm’s revenue increased 9.5% to £787M, with pre-tax profits up 21% to £58M.

The firm’s UK operation reported a revenue of £107.4M for 2008, up from £79M in 2007. Pre-tax profits were £9.3M, up from £7.2M a year earlier.

This growth was driven largely by acquisitions, although road contract wins in Scotland and Northern Ireland, combined with water framework wins, helped Grontmij acheive an organic revenue growth in the UK of 15.2%.

“Grontmij UK’s plan is to become a top ten consultancy, and the current economic climate is not going to affect this plan,” said UK & Ireland managing director Lawrence Hughes.
