UK consultant heads winning team for road tunnel under port of Genoa

A TEAM led by High-Point Rendel has won a £1.7M contract for the preliminary design of a £405M road under the port of Genoa.

The consultant is working with Italian companies D'Appolonia and Technital and Dutch group Tunnel Engineering Consultants (TEC) for client Tunnel di Genova.

The joint venture will study and develop the design of routes and construction for the crossing, including immersed, bored and cut and cover tunnel options.

It will be about 1.8km long with either two- or three-lane dual carriageways. Junctions to Genoa's road network, a road along the Foce foreshore and a range of environmental and cost impacts will also be studied.
