Two more water firms to slash prices

Two more water firms are to lower their prices in real terms.

Northumbrian Water and Dŵr Cymru will reduce pre-inflation customer bills by 2% and 5% respectively over the next five years.

The figures were revealed in draft determinations for 2015 to 2020 by regulator Ofwat. It follows news last month that South West Water and Affinity Water would cut pre-inflation prices.

Ofwat chief regulation officer Sonia Brown said: “We have challenged and scrutinised the business plans Northumbrian and Dŵr Cymru submitted.

“Both companies are offering their customers improved outcomes at a more affordable price. We have identified a small number of areas where it has been necessary for us to intervene to protect customers’ interests.”

Consultation on the draft determinations will close on 4 July. All remaining water companies will receive their draft determinations in August.

Final determinations for all companies will be published at the end of this year.
