Two die in Mexico bridge collapse

Two people have been killed and a third seriously injured after a pedestrian bridge collapsed in a suburb of Mexico City.

An investigation has been launched after the footbridge, described by authorities as “an old structure”, fell down on an expressway during rush hour on Monday evening.

Officials have recovered the bodies of a woman and a young man who are believed to have been walking over the bridge. A third victim reportedly lost both legs in the accident.

The bridge was situated over the Periferico expressway that passes through the Mexican capital and some of its suburbs.

At least one police car was damaged by debris falling onto the road below.
