Turner prize

Your article on the Turner Centre (NCE 15 January) sets out well some of the issues that we have been concerned with since we first decided to place the gallery building in the sea, outside the pier at Margate.

I would like to point out that Jane Wernick Associates worked on the project since its inception at the competition stage in the early summer of 2001 until the end of October 2003. During that time the project received planning permission, and we worked with Arup Maritime to develop the requirements of the physical modelling that you reported.

Whitby Bird's official involvement started at the end of October 2003.
