Launching of the first upstream deck sections on the Hungerford footbridge across the Thames in London has begun.

Supported by a temporary steel truss, two of the 50m long by 4.7m wide insitu concrete units had been cast and successfully launched by the end of last week. JV main contractor Costain Norwest Holst hopes to get the cycle for the production and launching of each section down to three weeks and complete the final launch across the Victoria Embankment in October. Pylon erection and cable stay installation will begin the following month, as will launching of the downstream deck.
