Travel award

THE SECOND John Mitchell award has been made to Jason Le Masurier, a research associate at the University of Bristol. Le Masurier, who is researching the application of the observational method to geotechnical design, will use the travel bursary to fund a study tour to Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the US to increase his understanding of the processes.

The John Mitchell Memorial Trust was established in memory of Ove Arup's John Mitchell, to gain an appreciation of the advantages of learning from other cultures. Up to £3,000 is available to the holder of the award which is open to engineers under 35. Further information from Dianne Jennings on 0181 663 0947.
