Perhaps Tubelines would consider sub-contracting its track relaying teams to Network Rail. At a rate of 1,300km during three weekend possessions (Working to a timetable, NCE 11 March) we will have the West Coast Route Modernisation licked before the Chancellor's comprehensive spending review.

Claude Marais, Birmingham, Claude.Marais@Birse.co.uk Editors note: Tube Lines is working on 1,300 metres of track not 1,300km as stated last week. The cost of the Dutch High Speed Line signalling is £800M.
