TRAM ON TRACK: Around half the on-street works for the 14km Line One of Nottingham's £160M Express Transit scheme in the central Market Square of the city are finished, says contractor Carillion, though off street line work will continue until early next year.

Carillion is an equal partner in the Arrow Consortium responsible for the civil engineering and building infrastructure of the privately financed project.

It is working alongside tram builder Bombardier, tram and bus integration expert Transdev and major local bus operator Nottingham City Transport.

Work on the line began in June 2000 and is on schedule for the public tram services to begin operation in November 2003, says Carillion. The first line will be completed next spring.
