Tough competition looms for NCE 100 contenders

NCE100 3x2

Competition is set to be fierce for places in this year’s NCE 100 with more than 20 new entries from consultants and contractors big and small.

The NCE 100 is New Civil Engineer’s assessment of the best civil engineering companies based on five core competencies that cut to the heart of what makes a great civils firm.

Last year Opus International beat all comers to become the inaugural NCE 100 Company of the Year, heading a top five packed with major industry players including MWH, Arup, Mott MacDonald and Arcadis. Demonstrating that the NCE 100 is about culture and ethos and not size or turnover, the top 10 was rounded out with a mix of companies big and small including Pell Frischmann, London Bridge Associates, Costain, JBA Consulting and Westlakes Engineering.

This year the competition promises to be even tougher with confirmed new entries from major players including Amec Foster Wheeler, BDP, Carillion and CH2M. Many more major players are now finalising their responses to the exhaustive company questionnaire before the assessment process moves to the next stage.

The next stage of the assessment will involve the NCE 100’s panel of 30 judges scoring qualitative answers in the company questionnaires, with the leading firms invited in for face to face interviews - with the chance to boost their overall score and win one of 15 special prizes for excellence in specific competencies.

Alongside this employees of all entering companies will be canvased on their views of what it is like to work for their firm.

Their responses, combined with the views of the judges and an assessment of the questionnaire will determine overall scores and rankings, with the number one ranked firm named NCE 100 Company of the Year.

The full NCE 100 and all prize winners will be revealed at a gala awards dinner in London in June. Firms making the NCE 100 will receive recognition and praise on the night and then join the NCE 100 Club and get the chance to participate in a series of exclusive breakfast briefings throughout 2017/18.
