Paul Grainger (centre) from Scott Wilson Pavement Engineering became Young Railway Engineer of the Year at the ICE last week. His paper, on new trackbed investigation techniques, beat off competition from fellow finalists Andrew Hough (left) and Nick Davison. The judges were impressed by Grainger's knowledge and presentational skills and by the 'thoughtful' way he handled their intense questioning.
