At a recent church choir practice I was searchingly interrogated about the problems of the Millenium Bridge. The discussion extended to the question of the patron saint of bridges. I recalled seeing statues of St Nepomuk on all important bridges in eastern europe.
Apparently he was martyred by being thrown from a bridge. A wag piped up, 'St Nepomuk, sway for us!'
