Thumbs-up for airport runways

No new runways around London – does the Conservative Party not realise that because of runway capacity hundreds of aircraft bound for Heathrow each day circle round the four 'stacks', sometimes for half an hour each. What is that doing to total carbon emissions?
Another runway at Heathrow Airport would virtually eliminate "stacking", with a consequent large reduction in fuel burn.

Also, traffic through Heathrow makes a vital contribution to the economy. The result of their policy would mean that traffic would re-route via Paris/Charles de Gaulle (four runways) or Amsterdam/Schipol (seven runways).
