THREE'S A CROWD

Three consortia submitted bids for the privately financed upgrade of London Underground's subsurface lines. The three, Metronet, Linc and Surface Lines Group, are bidding to run the District, Circle, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and East London Lines.

Metronet comprises Adtranz, WS Atkins, Balfour Beatty, Thames Water and Seeboard.

The Linc consortium is Bombardier Transport, John Mowlem, Fluor Daniel, Alcatel and Anglian Water. Surface Lines group consists of Bechtel, Halcrow, Amey and Jarvis. The winning bidder will be announced by the end of the year.
