The Port of Antwerp

The Port of Antwerp, Belgium, is trialling mechanical dewatering of dredged materials in a bid to free up land currently used to provide holding lagoons. Under a $30M four year project UK consultant MWH is designing and overseeing installation and operation of a new plant to prove a pressing process that will ultimately have to deal with the port's 350,000 dry weight tonnes of annual maintenance dredgings.

ICE director general Tom Foulkes in December held preliminary talks with Baghdad University president and civil engineer Professor Mosa Al Mussawi over the professional recognition of Iraqi engineers.

Further discussions on training and accreditation are planned for this month.

In last month's NCEI Consultants File turnover figures were inadvertently given in pounds sterling, not US dollars as indicated. At time of going to press the conversion rate for pounds to dollars was ú1=$1.7.
