THE PLATFORM NOW ARRIVING: Next Sunday sees a key operation in the £18M contract to create a 8,000m2 raft above the main lines running into London's Liverpool Street station. A 500t crane will lift two smaller 200t cranes onto the section of the raft created so far, enabling them to continue the task of placing steelwork sections weighing up to 140t. The raft will form a building platform for the last phase of the Broadgate office development. Main contractor for the raft structure is Kvaerner Cleveland Bridge, foundations are by Edmund Nuttall and Bachy Soletanche, construction manager is Bovis and structural engineer is Skidmore Owings & Merrill. The raft is due for completion by Christmas.
