The Movement for Innovation's third call for demonstration projects has resulted in 65 applications.

News

The Movement for Innovation's third call for demonstration projects has resulted in 65 applications. Eight per cent of the submissions come from the transport sector, 2% are flood defence schemes and 6% are water projects. These add to the 84 projects already approved in the first two tranches.

Laing has won the contract to build the £62M Music Centre in Gateshead. The MCG will include a 1650-seat concert hall, a 450-seat second hall, a regional music school and a specialist music library. Construction will begin in late spring once package details have been agreed with client Gateshead Council. Mott MacDonald is civil and structural consultant.

New construction orders for the three months to November were 3% down overall on figures for the preceding three-months, according to Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. However, growth in house construction masked the 22% fall in infrastructure orders over this period - a 37% reduction on the corresponding period 12 months earlier.
