The misses

Wright feels steelwork in the extension's sub-floor structure is over-specified. Though lightness has been achieved in the wall and roof framework, 'steel below the floor is designed for blitzkrieg', he says. Wright believes structural engineers are constrained by codes of practice, and seldom 'think laterally'. Overdesign is normal, he says.
