The king and ICE

KING OF Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, has been made an Honorary Fellow of the ICE. President George Fleming presented the honour earlier this month at the Klai Kangwol Palace during a presidential tour of South East Asia.

The King received the accolade for his 'exceptional commitment and outstanding contribution to rural and sustainable development in Thailand'. He is acknowledged as an activist in environmental matters and is respected for his approach to problem solving.

The ICE hopes that the King's membership of the ICE will stimulate the development of Thailand's engineering institution and, in Fleming's words, 'underline the country's commitment to civil engineers in the development of infrastructure to satisfy the needs of its population'.
