The Independent

NASA scientists warned last week that an asteroid 1km wide has a 1 in 300 chance of striking earth. Travelling at a speed of 18.5km per second the asteroid could hit our planet in 878 years.

Steel producer Corus last week announced that despite losses of £385M last year and laying off 6,000 staff, its chairman Sir Brian Moffat received a pay rise of 103%, taking his salary up to £580,542.
