Global warming is now advancing so swiftly that only a massive expansion of nuclear power as the world's main energy source can prevent it overwhelming civilisation, according to scientist and green guru Professor James Lovelock. He said there is simply not enough time for renewable energy to take the place of coal, gas and oil fired power stations. Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace reject his claims.
