Immediate implementation of the ten year transport spending plan Funding to tackle the maintenance backlog for local roads Creation and improvement of passenger interchanges to provide reliable transfers, travel information, personal security and accessibility Use of electronic traffic management to control traffic flow and lane privileges for buses and car share vehicles to reduce vehicle use.

Design that reduces the risk of injuries from the construction and maintenance of buildings Teaching health and safety in engineering courses.

A skills crisis in engineering Better recognition of civil engineering in the national curriculum A radical change in funding arrangements for civil engineering courses in higher education Abolition of student loan debt for students entering and remaining in the civil engineering profession Greater recognition of women in engineering by careers advisors in schools and colleges.
