The Gallery | Huge truss lifted at Anfield

These images show a 650t, 140m-long truss being lifted above the Main Stand at Liverpool’s historic Anfield stadium.

The giant truss will be lowered into place onto its towers this afternoon as a critical stage of the stadium expansion project takes place.

Construction began in January on expanding the Main Stand at the Premier League football ground.

On completion, the stand will reach 45m at its highest point, more than double the height of the current stand. Anfield’s overall capacity will increase to 54,000.

Further development of the Anfield Road Stand is planned, which would add a further 4,800 seats.
