The European Investment Bank

The European Investment Bank has granted loans worth US$180M to fourteen Italian regions for reconstruction works in regions hit by recent natural disasters, including flooding, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Flood defence, drainage and geotechnical projects have been programmed. Italy's Civil Protection Department is coordinating works.

UK consultant Mott Macdonald and Chinese firm Beizi Engineering have formed a joint venture to tackle urban infrastructure projects in the booming Chinese construction market.

Iceland's national power company Landsvirkjun has appointed consultant Mott MacDonald to oversee construction of a 190m high concrete faced rockfill dam and 60km of tunnel in eastern Iceland. The US$1.3bn project is claimed to be the largest industrial development in Iceland's history. Mott is heading a joint venture with Icelandic consultants LÝnuh÷nnun, Fjarhitun and HNIT, plus European firms Coyne et Bellier, SWECO and Norconsult.
