Ten year regional transport programmes announced

Transport secretary Douglas Alexander yesterday delivered his long-awaited verdict on regional transport plans up to 2016.
Alexander has accepted regional recommendations to develop 17 schemes not previously approved with a further 90 schemes to be added to regional programmes over the next ten years. But Alexander also confirmed that funding restrictions mean that six schemes in the Highways Agency's Targeted Programme of Improvements and nine local authority schemes will not be funded. All other schemes previously approved are expected to progress, though in eight cases they will be heavily delayed.Related links:Today's top stories
