Atkins has won the challenge of designing around 100 temporary facilities that will make the 2012 Olympics an exhilarating experience for athletes, visitors and engineers.
At the same time it raised the profile of the whole engineering design sector by announcing it was becoming an official London 2012 sponsor.
Instantly it has catapulted itself and the industry into the publicity mainstream along with the likes of BT, BA and Deloitte.
Atkins' services on the temporary facilities contract will include building design, civil and structural engineering, acoustics, fire and accessibility.
The temporary facilities are located across the UK, including: around 20 at the Olympic Park site comprising either back of house facilities to permanent venues or complete temporary venues; up to 15 competition venues along the Thames and around London ; up to 13 outside London – including Weymouth, Manchester (Old Trafford), Glasgow (Hampden Park), Birmingham, Newcastle (St James's Park) and Cardiff (Millennium Stadium; and around 50 non-competition / training venues.
As a sponsor Atkins becomes the official engineering design services provider to London 2012.
