Tamar Bridge strengthening project

As NCE went to press it emerged that the client for the Tamar Bridge strengthening project is seriously concerned about the loss of key Hyder staff to Maunsell.

The Tamar Bridge & Torpoint Ferry joint committee represents Cornwall County Council and Plymouth City Council.

Its project manager Richard Fish told NCE on Tuesday that Hyder had been urged to maintain continuity on the complex project by subcontracting work to Maunsell so that former Hyder employees could continue to work on it.

'The contract remains with Hyder Special Structures, but we are anxious about the possible effects of losing so many key engineers, ' he said.

'Negotiations are continuing.'
