Taking issue

Elstree Computing has set up a pilot project with EC Harris to come up with a drawing and document management system which works in much the same way as traditional drawing issue sheets.

'The industry has a well tried, well understood and relatively universal paper method involving drawing issue sheets,' says Geoff Hawkings of EC Harris. 'Why can't we have this proven method available as a piece of software?'

Elstree managing director Charlie Barber agrees: 'In my experience the site foreman has no real difficulty in finding the right information on paper drawings.'

Surprisingly few CAD drawings are being made available as electronic files, believes Barber. And worryingly few people have good control systems, with most printing off electronic drawings and storing them as normal.
