International consulting engineers Systra signed a contract to undertake design studies as part of the project to build a metro in Panama City.
The contract was won by Systra on 7 January 2011. It was awarded by Consorcio Linea Uno, the joint venture set up to deliver the design and turnkey construction of line 1 of the metro.
Systra will be in charge of the design for the two overhead sections of the proposed 13.7km automated metro line. The company will also be responsible for all the detailed designs for the depot and workshops for the line as part of the 18 month contract.
Consorcio Linea Uno won the contract to construct the line in November 2010. It is made up of two civil engineering firms - Brazilian company Odebrecht and FCC from Spain.
