SYMONDS SAYS

Symonds has won the British Consultants Bureau's major project award for its technical innovation on the 4km immersed tube 0resund Tunnel, forming part of the road and rail link between Denmark and Sweden. The 20, 175m long, reinforced concrete units were made to very high quality standards in factory conditions using an adaptation of the cast/ push bridge construction method. Arup's elegant 0resund Bridge, part of the same link, earned a high commendation in the same category. WS Atkins also received a high commendation for work on the extraordinary Jumeira Beach Resort, Dubai, with its opulent seven star hotel. BCB British Consultant of the Year 2000 was organised by British Consultants Bureau, sponsored by The Times and Mott MacDonald, and the judging team which interviewed 18 finalists was chaired by Lord Renton of Mount Harry.
