Swell for leather

Letters

I enjoyed the article on born again bikers (NCE 12/19 April).

I too enjoy the freedom of riding a motorbike although it was initiated more as a means of transport than leisure.

The editor's comments are very timely. We need to be recognised as a road user group with particular concerns. My pet hate is the plethora of cable trenches which snake along our poorly maintained roads.

These, along with neat bitumen used to seal the edges, provides a surface that in wet weather runs a close second to diesel from overfilled HGVs.

Perhaps, when John Prescott joins us on two wheels, then the government will remember the promises it made at the last election to promote the use of bikes.
