Support increases for new Cambridge United stadium

Grosvenor Developments is working with Cambridge United (CU) on plans for a new community stadium.

CU’s chairman Paul Barry had said the club would work on redeveloping the R Costings Abbey stadium after Grosvenor bought the stadium last year.

But now the new landlord, along with development partners Wrenbridge, is helping the club to consider options to relocate.

Previous hopes for a 10,000 seater community stadium were dealt a blow last year when government planning inspectors ruled out a preferred site at Milton.

But the club is hoping to gain support from local authorities in the county and set up a steering group including representatives from each of the councils regarding a community stadium.

Barry said: “We’re working together with Grosvenor collaboratively and I, and the board, are excited about having a landlord who is open to discussion and will recognise that Cambridge United are the biggest brand in the sporting community of Cambridge.”
