Subsea 7 wins £200M offshore construction deal

Offshore engineering contractor Subsea 7 has won a £200M deal to work on a major project in the Norwegian Sea.

The London-based firm was awarded the pipeline and subsea construction contract by German oil and gas producer Wintershall.

It will see Subsea 7 provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation work for three major pipeline systems that will link the Maria development, 200km from Trondheim, to existing infrastructure in the sea.

Subsea 7 will also install a subsea production system and control umbilicals.

Wintershall Norge managing director Bernd Schrimpf said: “With this contract, we are moving ahead with the execution of our first operated development in Norway.

“Maria underlines our position as a growing operator and we are continually building our expertise in this field. This is the second major subsea contract awarded by Wintershall for the Maria project and underlines our commitment to developing fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

“Wintershall sees future potential for more developments of this kind in Norway, which is becoming a centre of excellence for these kinds of activities.”
