Students celebrate NCE with festive posters

NCE became compulsory reading for first year civil engineering students at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow just before Christmas after they were challenged to design a festive poster based on what they read.

The novel task was set by course tutor Dr Mike Murray. He gave students an hour and a half to read a copy of NCE then work with a partner to develop a Christmas themed poster using cuttings from the magazine.

Herriot Watt University’s emeritus professor Roland Paxton took on the tough challenge of selecting the winning teams. He awarded first place to Amy Campbell and Flora McNeil. Both win annual subscriptions to NCE.

“Getting our new students excited by the breadth of the construction industry and providing a learning environment where fun and creativity can be nurtured were a key aim of this exercise,” explained Murray.

“New Civil Engineer provided such a vehicle and our students engaged in this task with smiles of their faces.”

Runners up were Graig Donaldson & Gillian Wright with Thomas McIvar & David McIntyre in third place.
