Step by step surveys

Leica Geosystems' new GS50 GIS/GPS data collection system includes a palm computer with full QWERTY keyboard, large daylight-readable LCD display and Leica's own GPS technology. The all-new software package is claimed to simplify greatly the process of gathering and editing geographical data.

The GS50 is designed to be easy to use in the field. The software guides the operator through the recording attributes and position with an accuracy of 10mm. Data can be transferred via a data cable or PCMCIA cards with up to 85MB of memory.

The optional Leica Disto laser rangefinder interface allows position offsets to be calculated for inaccessible features such as the middle of a stream or river bed or an object on the far side of a chasm.
