Steel made simple

STEELBIZ, the Steel Construction Institute's online source of technical information, is now up and running.

Around half of the SCI's formal knowledge is available to view now, and for an introductory period the service is free.

By the end of 2002, the coverage will be complete, including steel design codes, section properties and member capacities, and worked examples (NCE 10 January).

A series of online lectures will also be available, aimed at providing a quality resource for teaching structural engineering at university.

'The opinion of our users is that there is a lot of useless information out on the web, and actually finding useful information is quite difficult, ' said SCI principal engineer Andrew Crowley. 'So we have designed Steelbiz to be clear and simple.'
