Squaring up to the millennium

The £9.8M, 500 space car park covers an area of around 80m by 90m and will be topped off by the New World Square, a landscaped area alongside Science World that will form the centre of the new Bristol 2000 development in the city's Canons Marsh district.

The project is focused around the former harbour area, now the home of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's SS Great Britain. Funding is led by the Millennium Commission, Arts Council and English Partnership, and land is provided by Bristol City Council. It is being run by client Bristol 2000, a partnership between local government and commercial and educational organisations that will be at the heart of the development.
