Speed on show

By all means 'Hobble the road hog' as Anthony Blewett exhorts (Letters, 16 July).

Drivers will ignore speed limits if they think there is a good chance of not being caught. As things are they are able to keep their speed a secret between themselves and their dashboard unless a police vehicle or radar gun is around.

Why not make drivers display their sin to the whole world, by requiring vehicles with power enough to be a danger on the roads to be fitted with speedometers that can be read from the outside of the vehicle? The technology is simple and cheap and amendment to the regulations would be straightforward.
